Higgins, my friend, did your respected professor also tell you that a majority of the poetical works known to be written by DeVere were mostlikely written when he was 14. This was the time when DeVere's father died. So, having read the poetry myself I can say that as an adult DeVere wrote only a couple of poems the bore his own name. The reason for this is that he was a very opinionated man and those opinions could have gotten him into a lot of trouble. His peers were all quite aware of his talent and knew his works. You see, in Elizabeths court, insinuations implicating the Queen of members of her court were acceptable if they were anonymous. Many a poet lost the Queens favor by causing a "scene" at court with their writings. Sir Philip Sidney was even banned from court for his writings. Edward could not afford the Queens disfavor.
Again, this is something that I have looked into myself. I have not only studied the life of DeVere, but the lives of many other men of that era and I am pretty confident in my opinion, but even I acknowlege that this is all based on theory. The only way to know with out a shadow of a doubt is to have been there and we both know that is not possible.
