: Do any of you think that Taming of the shrew" was anti-feminist. If so why ?
The Taming of the Shrew was utterly anti-feminist. Catherine believed in her independence immensly, she fought to keep it. She was wild, above the repressive limitations placed on women at the time. Not only does Shakespear take her spirit away, but he romantisizes her gradual oppression. He makes it seem like it was what she really wanted. He tamed her, as thogh she was nothing more than a dog. He tamed his bitch. as a feminist, i am appalled, however, as the play was written in the 17th century, Shakespeare can be forgiven as ignorant.
