the fool is traditionally a jester, in elizabethan times, a jester would be someone of little knowledge and sometimes a person who is retaded. the fool is there to entertain the king. in King lear, the fools proves to be quite a contradition as he is supposed to be the mad one, is in fact the one person who says things that make some sense. The problem is, nobody really listens to him. if you are still looking for information on 'foolery' try looking up 'jester'. good luck. also if u have any information on the role of the fool, i am also studying King Lear for school and if you have anything useful could you please send it to my email.
