: I have an essay to write on Hamlet does anyone have any solid proof on the statement in which I'm about to say if so then just reply thanks alot.
: In Halmet women are treated as traditional 17th century women they were considered morally, spiritually, and mentally weak.
No one could ever give justified proof for such
a claim, because to make this claim is to
envision the character in a light in which
Shakespeare probably didn't consciously consider.
It seems, in my opinion, to make a statement like
this puts the individuality of the characters in a
shadow of a rather strong and vague generality.
Shakespeare no doubt loves to depict the suffering
of great persons, and from this we must assume
that Gertrude and Ophelia have (strong)
souls that are a means (or instrument) of pleasure
to our greatest poet. My point is, he wouldn't
create the mother and lover of his greatest and
most brilliant character to be weak, for he
suffers tremendously at different times for both
of them, simply because they have his love or
what's left of it.
