arguably it is women who make hamlet delay murdering claudius as he is so obsessed with gertrudes betrayal of old hamlet.loads of quotes 'rank sty' etc even as he kills claudius he says 'incestuous, murderous villain' or something. the fact that he said incestuous first may indicate that he is murdering him for sleeping with getrude.
his opinion of gertrude affects his whole vision of female sex- ophelia. so they're pretty important.
